The updated minimum wage in Canada, along with five Canadian provinces/territories (Yukon, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador), comes into force as of today, April 1, 2024.
In line with inflation, the federal minimum wage in Canada has risen to $17.30 per hour, up from $16.65 per hour.
All commercial sectors regulated by the federal government in Canada, such as banking, postal and courier services, as well as interprovincial air, rail, road, and ocean transportation, are obligated to adhere to the federal minimum wage.
New minimum wage in five Canadian provinces
The minimum wage is set to increase in five Canadian provinces starting April 1, 2024.
Prince Edward Island (PEI) will see a 40-cent hourly increase, bringing the minimum wage to $15.40 per hour.
Nova Scotia's new minimum wage, effective today, will be $15.20 per hour.
In New Brunswick, the minimum wage has been officially raised to $15.30 per hour, starting April 1, 2024, up from $14.75.
Additionally, the minimum wage in Newfoundland and Labrador has been raised by 60 cents, reaching $15.60 per hour.
Moreover, the minimum wage in Yukon will see an increase of 82 cents, reaching $17.59 per hour.
