Once you graduate, there are several pathways for you to immigrate to Canada. Below, you will find the three most common ones:

1- Immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry, Canadian Experience Class program (CEC) after completing your studies and obtaining your Post-Graduation Work permit (PGWP)

If you are eligible to apply for a PGWP (Post Graduation Work Permit) upon graduation,  and you are able to obtain qualified work experience in Canada during that period, you have the option to apply for the Canadian permanent residency (PR) through the Express Entry, Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Have at least one year of qualified work experience in Canada in the last 3 years;
  • Your experience must be classified within the skill level types 0, A or B;
  • Have your language proficiency in English or French proven by one of the proficiency tests accepted for immigration purposes (IELTS ou CELPIP - General Training for English and TEF or TCF Canada for French); - the minimum required will vary according to your occupation and other factors.

2- Immigrate to Canada through a Provincial Nominee Program

A Provincial Nominee Program, or PNP, is a process that allows a province to nominate a prospective immigrant for Canadian permanent residency (PR). After you receive a provincial nomination, you can submit an official application for your permanent residency in Canada!

Because each province has their own demographic and economic needs, each one will have a different PNP category - or streams - tailored especifically according to their needs.

Here are a few of the provincial nominees programs that are designated specifically for international graduates in Canada:

  • British Columbia, Provincial Nominee Program - International Graduate stream;
  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Post-International Graduate stream;
  • Ontario Immigration Nominee Program - International Student, job Offer stream;
  • Ontario Immigration Nominee Program - Masters Graduate stream;
  • Nova Scotia International Graduate Entrepreneur;
  • Manitoba International Education Stream;
  • PEI International Graduates;

Among others.

3- Continue to work in Canada after your studies with a LMIA

If you  received a job offer from a Canadian employer supported by a LMIA - Labour Market Impact Assessment, you might be able to stay in Canada as a worker, with a work permit linked to that speciifc job offer. Besides, you may obtain additional points to apply for your immigration to Canada via the Express Entry system.

The LMIA is employer-driven, which means it must be requested by your employer.

Your employer must be a genuine employer with enough means to support your wages.

In most cases, it is also required to prove that there are no Canadian candidates who meet the requirements of that job position.

You also have the option to open your own business in Canada and apply for a LMIA Owner / Operator.

Applying for a LMIA is a detailed and complex process, so we recommend the support of one of our Regulated Canadians Immigration Consultants.

Upon obtaining a positive LMIA, you may also be able to receive additional points into  your Express Entry profile and immigrate to Canada.
